Campaign

Campaign

My project is like my own personal campaign which was inspired by crime prevention. Some things people may not consider as crime but should still be aware of. My inspiration came from the metropolitan police website which actually has their own crime prevention campaign on their website. “Be Safe is an ongoing Met Police crime prevention campaign that aims to motivate, empower and mobilise Londoners to take steps to protect themselves and their property from crime. It piloted in October 2016 focusing on residential burglary in selected hotspot boroughs, and has since developed to include mobile phone theft and scooter theft across London.”

Met Police website even includes different crimes and prevention tips and ideas. For
example, if you choose vehicle theft, it will show you how to keep your vehicle safe:

Be Safe campaign have created their own advertisements of keeping safe during different situations. One of the advertisements include:

As you can see, the poster is visually attractive due to the layout, font, image and colours used on it. The font is very clear and easy to read due to the colour contract to the actual image in the background. They have included their own ‘Be Safe’ logo which looks relatable to the met police logo and also relates to the theme of crime. So, the logo itself is telling you to look after yourself. As you can also see, the motorbike on the image is clear, they have done this in order to help the audience see how to keep the motorbike safe from theft. Clearing the colours from the motorbike drag your attention to the locks, chains and keys which are most important things to think about when looking after your motorbike. This is where I got inspired to highlight parts of my photography, to help the audience drag their attention to parts of the photograph.

The campaign has also included a video which shows how quickly and easy it is to lose your motorbike due to poor security. It shows that people can steal your motorbike is just 60 seconds if you don’t keep it secure.
