Scenario

A user is approaching the installation which is found in Hertfordshire University and is interested what is the purpose of it. There is a sign which informs the user to download the ‘Wikitude Studio’ application on their phone in order to be able to find out more. The digital poster which is projected onto a wall has images which relate to crime and there are many short facts and statistics shown. There is a soundtrack playing in the background which creates tension and matches to the theme of crime. The user places their phone in front of the poster and is able to see things moving around on the poster and access to different links and videos relating to the theme. The user looks amazed and not only enjoys the experience of the installation but also learns little facts and statistics about crime and also makes them think about the idea of why people commit crimes if there can be other way of resolving issues.

My project idea

The project will be a projected installation which will work through augmented reality. Augmented reality is a technology which allows computer generated images or videos to be seen on the real world but from a technological view. For example, the PokemonGo uses augmented reality as you can see creatures through the mobile devices in the real world. The augmented reality installation will be like a digital artwork. It will contain inspirational images and/or quotes which will get the audience thinking about crime prevention. The idea is for the completed digital installation to be projected onto the wall in places such as museums or other public places and for people to get involved with it due to the augmented reality. The audience would get involved as there would be more information hidden within the digital installation and the only way to find out the hidden information is through technological devices using an augmented reality application.

This mobile app uses augmented reality which I am also inspired by and am interested in to use for my project. Out of the three above ideas, crime issue is something that I would like to make my project about.

Inspirations

This is a link to one project which has inspired me. Its called 'Flutter of Butterflies Beyond Borders, Ephemeral Life'. "In the interactive work Flutter of Butterflies Beyond Borders, Ephemeral Life, butterflies are born from where people stand in the exhibition and flutter about the space. As the work progresses, the butterflies fly seamlessly into the nearby installation artworks, eliminating the boundaries between the works."

Starting Ideas

Problems which I could use in order to start thinking about ideas for my project:

1. Parking at Hertfordshire (system which could make it easier for students to find parking at the university without issues and in order to prevent parking charges)

2. Crime (A system/ installation which could inspire people to talk through issues and be against violence in order to create a peaceful environment for everyone to live in)

3. Bullying (an installation which would inspire and motivate those who are being bullied and motivate them to be proud of themselves which could also boost up their confidence levels.)

Objectives

My objectives are to create a project concept which will be within the broad remit of Digital Media. I will be looking at different platforms which I could use and mainly looking at different project ideas in order to find some kind of inspiration to help me create my own idea.
